Lafayette Winona Civic League                     

Minutes of the November 21, 2023 Open Meeting

 

Attendance: 16

Opening ceremonies:

Acting President Jessica Clark called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. She reminded the community that Matt Henson left board, but will continue to assist the league by heading the traffic committee. Remaining Board members include Treasurer Nancy Eyler, Russ Brandt, and Katie Romeo.

 

Program:

7:03 pm Guest Speaker Mr. Stevenson- Lafayette Dept of Transportation and his team (Dorian Allen and Marjorie Anne Hilliard) came to discuss the  Lafayette Consultant Contract that researched crash history, factor of crashes, study of 2015, the Lane Repurposing from Lindenwood to Tidewater, the Community Outreach, Input, Feedback, and Concept development groups. He explained Near term and short term solutions, such as potentially widening the parking lane or adding a potential bike lane. Mr. Stevenson mentioned potential grants.

 

7:12 pm There was a Question and Answer session that mentioned Round Abouts, Speed bumps, and Lane Narrowing.

 

7:16 pm Guest Speaker Divenda Nolan from JenCare Senior Medical Center came to talk about the Medicaid Service Outreach for Seniors, such as Health Fairs and Primary Medical care. Key points include but are not limited to:

  • Cardiology, labs, pharmacy, EKG, Mammograms, Classes, Cardiacs, Healthy eating, Socialization activities, Memory Care
  • Affordable Care accepting Anthem, Etena, United Health, Human, Tricare for Life, and Medicare
  • Capped Care with On site Medication
  • On site tests, Screening, specialists at 5 convenient locations
  • Door to door transportation available for patients
  • JenCare has been in Norfolk for 16 years and accepts new patients with only 1-2 weeks wait time.

 

Community safety and crime report:

7:36 pm Officer Dylan Tomko, the new civic league Community Resource Officer, gave a report on crime. There was a commercial burglary on Lafayette Blvd and a porch pirate report of stolen goods at 1400 Lafayette Blvd.

 

7:40 October 17th meeting minutes were read and approved.

 

Treasurer’s report:

Treasurer Nancy Eyler gave the treasurer’s report. She reported that the increase in funds added to $5400.00. This resulted in $25 from the Dog Park and the addition of $55 received for 5 new members in October.

 

Good For The Order:

7:48  pm Statement regarding Closing the Community Facebook Group was explained.

7:50 pm Trivia: In 1983, it cost $1.50 to join the Civic League

7:53 pm Marcy won $10 Raffle gift card.

The next schedule meeting will be January 16, 2024.

The meeting adjourned at 7:55 PM.
